Samsung Intrepid Review

,
The Samsung Intrepid is Sprint’s first smartphone to run Windows Mobile 6.5 — for an improved Internet Explore Mobile browser with Flash support, new “MyPhone” backup service and access to applications and games through Windows Marketplace for Mobile.

The handset comes with a touch screen display, QWERTY keypad, games, a music and video player, and a 3.2-megapixel camera/camcorder. There’s even “TellMe” technology for voice-activated commands.

The Intrepid has a few drawbacks. Its 2.5-inch screen isn’t too big or bright and the keypad doesn’t leave room between keys. The volume isn’t that loud and a new browser and more storage couldn’t hurt.

Regardless, there’s a lot to see. The Intrepid may have kinks to work out but Windows Mobile fans will like that they can seamlessly connect their computer life into their mobile life.

Design

The Intrepid’s professional, lightweight design is a bit wide for the average hand, but amazingly thin — at least compared to many BlackBerry smartphones.

It has an average-sized 2.5-inch touch screen display that isn’t very bright. As a result, the extra-reflective screen is difficult to use at night.

The feels even lighter thanks to the slick back cover. The back of the phone has the lens of a 3.2-megapixel camera, a small self-portrait mirror and an external speaker.

The front of the Intrepid has a menu bar with navigation keys that activate Windows Mobile. They QWERTY keypad’s average-sized buttons are raised, but have no space between them, so typing can result in some thumb crowding. They keys are also backlit for noctural texting.

The left side of the phone has volume keys and a USB/charger outlet. The right side has a power on key, a reset slot, camera activation key and stylus operation key.

Overall, the thin and light Intrepid is well designed. However the dull, reflective display makes nighttime use difficult.

Out of the box, the Samsung Intrepid comes with a standard lithium-ion battery, AC phone charger, SIM card, 3.5mm stereo headset and microphone, USB sync cable, basics guide and an email set-up guide
